Never forget to control the tongue,
Because an unguarded tongue often fails to be kind.
(“Never Forget” Line 4)
No one can tame the tongue, though. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we both bless the Lord and Father and curse human beings made in God’s likeness. (James 3:8-9, CEB)
Words are powerful. I know that well. Help me, Lord, to use my words today for good, positive, and holy purposes—to bless rather than curse, to inspire rather than deflate, and build rather than destroy.
[The people of God] shouldn’t speak disrespectfully about anyone, but they should be peaceful, kind, and show complete courtesy toward everyone. (Titus 3:2, CEB)
Your kindness to me can be neither measured nor fully known. Let my words, then, be overflowing with peace, contagiously kind, and uncommonly courteous to everyone who crosses my path today.
