God named the light Day and the darkness Night.
There was evening and there was morning: the first day.—Genesis 1:5 (CEB)
God’s first act of bringing order into the formlessness and emptiness of the created world reminds us of the divine order and purpose of the world in which we live.
Light—created by God—symbolizes knowledge, understanding, and righteousness. Darkness—not created by God, but merely the absence of light— represents ignorance, confusion, and sin.
We will experience moments of darkness and light, clarity and obscurity, understanding and confusion, and goodness and brokenness. This is the nature of our world.
God’s nature, however, is light. We have been invited to walk with the One for whom darkness is not too dark and in whom the night shines as bright as day (Psalm 139:12)!
Today, invite the light of your Heavenly Father to fill your life, empowering you to live a life of love and purpose.
