God said, “Let the earth grow plant life: plants…fruit trees…each according to its kind throughout the earth.” And that’s what happened…God saw how good it was.
—Genesis 1:11-12 (CEB)
The images of Genesis are powerful. The Spirit of God hovers over the dark, deep, formless waters.
Then light.
Then sky.
Then land.
And now the land itself begins to produce plants and trees.
And it is good.
Our lives in this busy and hurried world in which we live can seem futile, hopeless, and without purpose. But God’s spirit is near.
With God, there is no darkness.
With God, there is space to live and breathe.
With God, our hearts are uncovered.
With God, our lives produce good and pleasing fruit.
The God whose words created beauty from formlessness also speaks to me, creating something from my nothing.
Thank you, Lord; please continue re-creating me into your image.
